Research Class Exercise

One of the researches I did was about the animator Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe. To do my research I started by browsing the Cartoon network page to see if there was information about the creators of the animations. Since I didn't find this information, I searched for animation. Then I found a website with the biography of the animator and creator of Steven Universe: Rebecca Sugar | Steven Universe Wiki | Fandom. On this site, I also found information about the animation construction process, from the storyboard to the episodes. Even though I found this site, I researched others to try to find out more about Rebecca Sugar and her creations.

One of the facts that I discovered and that were important for my work, was the process of building a storyboard. I've done storyboards, but not as thorough. On the website listed, I can see how it is done. When we opened the storyboard that was built to make an episode of animation, we were able to understand the whole process of creating that episode and the story they want to tell. I explored the storyboard step by step because we learned well by example. In theory, there can be misunderstandings about how to build a storyboard, which is a crucial moment in animation, but the example is very enlightening.

The research helped me to analyze something that was important for me to learn. I thought I knew how to create a storyboard, but I realized that it is a complex, time-consuming, and fundamental process. A good storyboard allows an animator to be able to do the animation because just follow what is on the storyboard.

Another thing I discovered with this research is that being an animator can go through many tasks, just like Rebbeca. We can be responsible for the storyboard, the production process, the animation, among other important tasks to make an animation. It is important to be prepared for these multi-tasks so that we can grow as animators.
