Website: self-evaluation, research
In order to build my website, I did some research as I mentioned in previous posts. I've been watching how Andrew Coulwell builds his websites. I also researched how to build a website and why it is important to have a website.
When we research to meet web designers and, mainly to know the best, we find the name of several companies that offer this service. There are several companies that stand out:
Inovve Agência Web Design - Web Design Coimbra Criação Websites Profissionais - Sites Criativos PMEs (inovve.com) - is a company that presents very different and versatile jobs. The projects are worked on by a team. They are responsible for the design, content creation, implementation of the entire online component, and the maintenance of the website.
BlackDeers - Our Website Design & Development Portfolio - BlackDeers - this company works with many projects from other countries. It offers services: web design, website development, digital marketing, support, and hosting. On their page, we can see some sites they have built.
Pixel by Pixel - See some of Pixel by Pixel happy clients | Pixel by Pixel - it also features several services: e-commerce, web development, web design, graphic design, digital marketing, among others. It has customers from well-known brands, such as BMW and Heinz.
Only with the example of these three companies I was able to see different examples of websites. Of course, these sites are created by professionals and their layout is very good. It is difficult to match the design of these sites unless you are someone who is, or wants to be, a web designer.
I also researched some award-winning sites, I give here some examples:
- Award-Winning Designs of 2019 - Awwwards' Best Website of the Day
1917: In the Trenches - 1917 | 360 Trench Experience | In Theaters Now
- Nomadic Tribe - Awwwards' Site of the Year nomination
Nomadic Tribe — Embark on a life-changing journey!
- Diana Danieli - Award: Webby 2019
Diana Danieli Home Diana Danieli Home
- George Nakashima Woodworkers- Award: Webby 2019
George Nakashima Woodworkers - New Hope, Pennsylvania
These sites allow us to understand that from the design stage to the publication stage, all details are well thought out. In visual terms they are very appealing, in terms of functionality they are intuitive, but they often take time to open the pages because the pages have quality images and this makes the page "heavier".
With these surveys, I was able to understand what I should try to do in order to build a good website. From being intuitive, having a good design (at least a simple design), not having errors, and loading pages easily.
On my website I want, in the beginning, to have only four pages: Home, portfolio, Bio, and Contact. At the start of my website, I want to have all pages with some content. I don't want it to happen like some pages that we click on and show nothing. When researching websites, I often found empty pages that, in addition to wasting our time, made us feel cheated. I want my website to have an introduction, works done by me, a short biography, and to enable a way to be contacted.
