Project First Thoughts

 For my project in the second term, I started to think about what animation I should do next. I started by thinking of focusing more on the movement in animation, for example, walking, running, jumping, etc.

The best thing I should start doing is seeing how other animators do their character's movement and how I should do it too. But if I want to start doing an animation, I need a program for it, and for now, I will be using a program called SketchBook.

This program is made to like the name suggests, sketch. But this program can be used to sketch animations, which is what I need at the moment.

With that in mind, I should be ready to start researching good animators so I can do the same and learn.

I should start by watching the animators from well-known cartoon shows: Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Disney channel, etc.

With this in mind, I will choose the theme of Expressionism (one of the themes that I had to choose for this project) for my work. I will first draw some characters in very different poses to express some feeling or emotion, then I will try to animate some of them on my computer and see how it goes.

    This is an interesting theme to choose, but one that will need a lot of background and support research to help develop it. You could start by looking at the Expressionist movement, how this was used by film makers (I mentioned the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, 1919, but also Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis' from 1927). The artist Frans Masereel would be also interesting for you as he used a lot of drama and expressionistic poses in his work.
