Character drawing
Today in class we started to see how to draw a Human character. We begin by addressing the basic principles that allow us to draw the human character correctly.
We started by looking at a technique that measures the human body in "heads". For this, we use a scale in which we convert the size of a person's head and get the size of the rest of the body. We have as an example:
- Adult Male is between 7.5 / 8 heads;
- Adult Female is between 7 / 7.5 heads;
- Child is between 4/5 heads.
With this, we started to see how to do the human body with these measurements, calculating the spaces where we will place each part of the body. Thus, we have the human figure divided into several parts, namely:
(i) headspace - we draw the head;
(ii) we draw the chin and chest, and it ends on the nipples;
(iii) we draw the chest to the navel (belly bottom);
(iv) we draw the navel to the bottom of the hips pr crotch;
(v) we draw the bottom of hips to mid hips (and the tip of your fingers);
(vi) we draw the mid-thigh to knees;
(vii) we draw the knees to mid-shin;
(viii) we draw the mid-shin to the foot.
With this, I started to draw a simple figure that had these rules in mind:

After that, we were asked to create our own character taking into account the drawing we had just made. The main idea of this task was to try making a cartoon character with some of the proportions larger or smaller to give the idea of how the character looks. With this in mind, I started to do the character with a cartoon look and proportions right.
I started by doing a rough sketch of the character, then make his basic form of the body and where the legs will go. Then it was simpler, I worked towards getting a final drawing, so with the thicker pencil, I drew on top of it to make it more clear.
And here was my first attempt:

When I got to do this drawing, I was told that my character didn't have a lot of muscles. With that, I consider that I went too far in making the muscles because it seems a little exaggerated. My intention was to make a more natural human figure and it was very muscular. The problem was that I was so focused on drawing the muscles that I was distracted by the whole. Hence perhaps it was exaggerated. But evaluating the design, I was satisfied with the final result.
Second drawing:

This drawing was to exercise how clothes would work in the body I drew previously. I decided for this body to draw some futuristic clothing hoping that it would look decent on the character, and it did. I liked this change and it made the character look 10x better

Second drawing:
In this drawing, I used an ink pen to get a more finished look to it. With this drawing, I wanted to see how my drawing would go if I tried to draw a woman. The result was what I expected, a body with more curves than the male body and with other features that men don't have, like breasts and the fact that women have fewer muscles than men.
Overall, I think this exercise was good training and it was very good for me, helping on my drawings this term.
I also got to see these 2 videos that helped me through this task:

The final 4 drawings you have published here are a vast improvement on what you did in the class and demonstrate how you are improving all the time in terms of your drawing. Although you seemed quite stuck with your drawing at the beginning of the academic year, exercises like the one we did in the class have started to develop your ability and even if you simplify the characters for this terms animation, you will have the knowledge of tasks like this that will make your figures more believable. Good effort.
