Collab work Art portfolio
This week, in the art portfolio we had to do collaborative artwork with a partner that our tutor chose. The group consisted of two people: André and Zorana. We were asked to do an art project with a theme of our choosing.
The theme we chose was a poster that consisted of 2 art styles. We decided that the story of the poster would cover the meeting of people from different backgrounds. The characters would be either scary or cute to differentiate the “different people’’ and the different backgrounds that they came from.
So the poster would have:
Characters meet each other from different worlds
Poster- scary characters meeting nice friendly characters
A4 format will be colored. The cute and nice characters will be made by André and the scary ones made by Zorana.
And it's digital.
With that we did our first sketch:
With this first sketch, we thought of changing some of the characters. On André's side, we wanted the characters to look cuter, use, for example, animals that in real life would look cute. On Zorana's side, we thought that everything was generally ok and it would need some minor changes.
This was André’s part of the work. When this was done, we really liked the cute characters, but we needed to make the characters with color and change the background for something more suitable.
In this drawing, Zorana made the rest of her characters and decided to make them with more detail, for example, the colors, the backgrounds, and the shadows. The only thing it was missing was some final touches that André would give it.
These small changes were to make the art feel real and with good colors. After this we thought that the work was good enough for the time we had to do it. If we had more time we would probably do something different, probably more detail and better designs for the characters, but we did a good effort.
This work was very important to understand that working as a team is a challenge, due to the differences that we have in approaching drawing, type of drawing, different characters, tastes, values, among others. There are a number of factors present that, without realizing it, interfere with our work. We had several meetings to be able to give direction to our work. We brainstormed ideas, found something in common to be able to sketch what we wanted. This experience was fundamental because it showed us that teamwork helps us to think about aspects that we would not think alone. Basically, our design represents what we are, different people who are in front of each other and who, despite their differences, share the world they live in, and one day we can probably work together.
So, this was a useful exercise? The outcome is impressive and a really well put together combination of your ideas and skills. I'd really like to see an animation of these characters together. Collaboration is really important to both of your subject areas, you will be working as part of a team when you graduate and enter the workplace. Well done.
