Sketch of Characters with different approaches
On this part of the drawing, I got 3 drawings that were useful for me. The one on the top right was a test to see who the character "mom" would look with glasses, and it turned out to work well. The one on the bottom right in red was a version of "mom" as a nightmare, which was good for my next storyboard called "Nightmare".
But the one that was very interesting for me was the 2 figures on the bottom representing a child and an adult. They had me think if in the "nightmare" there would be faceless figures that would represent family members from the main character. So I draw some sketches on my computer.
In these sketches, I did the main character having a lot of stress, on the right is just him resisting the stress and on the left one is him turning into one of the nightmares creators.
I grabbed the idea on the last sketch and did some figures with no face. When I was doing the drawing on the top right, I had in my mind to put a giant eye in the face of these creators. And so I did on the big creator in the center.
With these sketches, I wanted to focus more on the new characters that I had created.
They looked unique, some scary that you would probably see inside a dream. These creators would try to grab the main character to the deep inside his dream, with their melting body with a dark color. The dark colors would be perfect to blend them inside the dream to catch the main protagonist by surprise.
I didn't want to leave this drawing with no background, I wanted to see them blend with the scene. So I did a background.
This was the perfect placement for them to be. They would be creators that would have different sizes and shapes, so they could represent everyone in the main character's family.
All of the drawings were made in "Krita", a program that I've talked about on the blog, and I used photoshop to do the last final touches:

Really like this final image, but remember what we talked about in the class about working a bit more detail into the background. Perhaps you could do a follow up post.
