WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT ANIMATION?

Today in class we got to talk about what we know about our own subject area. I will be answering 4 questions regarding this theme:

What should I be doing in my subject area?

First, I should research more about artists and animations to get a better understanding of what has been done over time and what I can learn from these artists. I also need to learn more about what is positive or negative, what was a success or failure in the area of animation, to understand what attracts the audience and how it should guide my path.

Second, I should be training how to do a series of drawings or photos (in case of stop-motion) and put them all together to form a fluid video that tells a story or shows an Idea to the target public. When we can do this successfully, we can have good animation. I have to be able to make different characters and draw other figures and scenarios to understand what I can and cannot do.

What skills and knowledge do I need for my subject area?

In my case, I need to know how to draw movement in general. I need to have very good knowledge of how something moves or would move in my animation so people understand what's happening. This applies to any animation type, in 2D animation you need to draw almost the same thing for a long time so you can have a smooth animation. In stop motion, you have to move your parts very slowly so it also looks smooth.

What jobs can I get by studying this subject?

When studying animation I have the possibility to be an animator. But it can be done differently because You can animate for someone or you can lead a group of animators. You can also be a teacher on the subject. The jobs can depend on what you are doing, if it's VFX, sketches, final touches, etc, you will probably work with a team for that, but you work alone you will have to do this all by yourself. But working alone is not a good idea, because when working with others I learn more, the challenges are different and it is possible to have very different ideas for doing a good job. In this area, it is possible to animate a commercial, video games, movies, shows for teens or children, or even to support someone.

If I scored myself out of ten, with ten being the highest, how well do I think I know my own subject area?

If I scored myself, I would give myself an 8. I based this note on practice, that is, I can make an animation because I have knowledge of drawings and technicians that allow me to animate. I know the animation techniques, I know 2D animation (I would like to work on it), I can add sound, I can work with the animation programs and I have already done several animation experiments. But I don't know everything. As I mentioned in my first answer, I still have a lot to learn.

Here's a small animation that I did while talking about these subject:
