Development Exercise #2
This development is focused on the character design and training if I can draw it or not. This is because I need to make sure that I can animate this character, and for that, I need to draw it multiple times.
First I wanted to make my character have multiple roles as a robot. I thought of "main jobs" for a robot and see if they would work.
The first one (from the left) is the "Jet" mode. This mode would allow the character to fly on earth or on any planet with enough atmosphere. Here are some images I was inspired on:
(The Times website, 2020)
(Quora, 2018)
The second one is for combat purposes. It has a rifle gun that is similar to a sniper and a blade. It also has extra armor so it can survive longer in shot. Here's the image that inspired me for the rifle:
(New Atlas, 2014)
The third one is for heavy lifting, related to construction purposes. And here are the images that made me to this drawing:
(Istock image)
(CAT, n.d.)
And the last one is also related to construction. It's related to fixing and welding, this is because the character has a welding tool and a drill as equipment. These are the images that inspired me on doing this last variation of the character:
(all images from Aliexpress)
It was difficult to choose these images because it was from ideas that I already knew about professions and armament. So I worried about reaching for images that would help me represent what I meant with the drawings.

Some really good background research here - would like to see you develop your hand drawn sketches again this term and give yourself another string to your bow - you made a lot of progress last term, this is a chance to build on it.
ReplyDeleteThe drawings at the top of the post are really well realised, well done.
