Tell me a story

In this blog post, I will be explaining the story of the animation I will be doing for this term.

In my last post, I've talked about my main ideas for my animation, more specifically, I wanted to get my main character, who is a robot, to integrate three essential aspects:

(i) Japanese culture;

(ii) the space theme;

(iii) the manga style.

The animation will be 2D because on the one hand I've already got the 2D animation concept correctly and I'm familiar with it, on the other hand, using 3D software like blender has shown that my computer needs to have more space and power to render (and stop motion would be more time consuming and I don't want to risk it).

Hybrid Project:
or "ハイブリッドプロジェクト"

A robot named 小さなうさぎ (Chīsana Usagi) has a mission ordered by humans to go to a specific planet to get a specific resource. To save enough space for the resources and for the robot to live, they had to go for a small spaceship. In his journey, he will carry his essentials to survive in space. As a robot, he doesn't need much as a human, but humans make sure that he's stable and well to do the mission.
In the middle of the journey, the spaceship has an anomaly with its main engines and the fuel, causing the ship to heat and start to get on fire. This makes the gravity generator of the ship (something that makes the ship spin to produce a fake gravity) fail and turn off. The robot needs to find a way to get to the escape pod and hopefully get to its destination.
He travels alone in space on his small escape pod when he finally arrives on the planet he needed to land. Unfortunately, there was no way for him to get back to the ship without getting rescued. This story finishes with the robot staying on this planet alone awaiting someone's help.

  1. Impressive initial design - is this intended to be one of your character designs? I'd like to see more development - one of the things you needed to improve upon last term was how you use the blog. Your folio was good and you would have achieved a better assessment outcome if your blog had focused more on development and background research.
