Class Task: Further Project Development

This week, we were asked to make 5 sketches about our project and then pick one of the drawings to develop one of the ideas.

So I first did some sketches of the character. I focused on the hands of the character because I thought that they were too basic. I also did a drawing of the character just for training.

After these drawings, I thought of making some training on the character. And for that, I had an idea. The posters that I will make will include my 2D character in a 3D world, but if I make the character more 3D, it could blend in. I wanted to shadow the character's head (where I thought it was the most difficult part to shadow.

The drawings were very good for what I was expecting. They tell me information about how 3D the face is. When I complete one of the 3D scenes, I can use these lighting techniques to make the character 3D.

After these sketches, I went back to the hands. I wanted to see what was the best or the worst for the character when talking about her hands. I tried some different designs to see what would be best.

First, I tried to do the normal version of the hand, but black. The black version of the hand doesn't go along with the character and it would confuse the public. Then I did a more detailed one, which I like, but I think that it would give me a lot of work to draw something this detailed multiple times. Then I ended the sketches by drawing a version with no fingers separated. I will stay with the one that has the normal fingers, as that it can express more emotion and gestures that wouldn't be possible with the "no fingers separated" one.

To conclude, I found it very useful to do these drawings. They gave me plenty of understanding about the aspects of the character that I wasn't sure about. Now that I am sure I can potentially start to animate the character.

  1. Is there room to make your figures rounder, fuller in the shapes you use? The second image is interesting inasmuch as you make a series of sketches of the face of your character which shows development, but as far as the figure goes, try making the bodies rounder, exaggerate - that was one of your directions for this task.
