Final Project: Final steps

Image
When I had everything ready, I started doing drawings to see how the characters and every movement would go in the animation. Here are the examples: I did these drawings on the program called "Krita", a good program that I'm familiar with. So I started planing, I had to use voices, music, sound effects, and animation. The voices were easy, I and a friend of mine did the voices for both human characters, me for the spiky hair one, and the other was my friend. Sound effects were also made by myself using door noises. The music I got from a website called FreeMusicArchive  where I took 3 songs, "Creative design" by Scott Holmes Music, "Long Ride" by "(( bode frequency))", and "Approaching" by "(( bode frequency))". The link to this website is here . For this animation, I tried using Opentoonz, but for some reason, the program was crashing a lot and it only saved in AVI, and I lost twice my whole work with the program. The so...

Website self-evaluation: Content, design, navigation

My main goal in building a website is to make my work known. It started as a job for a university discipline, but I intend to continue the site, making many improvements when I have more time. My site will have users linked to animation. If it is well publicized, perhaps even future employers. That is why it is important to have a digital portfolio because it can pave the way for my professional career. The portfolio promotes and disseminates my work, showing the quality and type of work I develop. The portfolio is an instrument that shows what I can do and that allows me to guarantee future work. When we present our digital portfolio it is a way to introduce ourselves (through a brief biography) and show our best work. In the construction of my digital portfolio/website I used a logo created by me (my name) and used the Wix image gallery (because they can be used without copyright problems). I started the site by choosing a template related to the portfolios, but then I changed almost...

Website: self-evaluation, research

Image
In order to build my website, I did some research as I mentioned in previous posts. I've been watching how Andrew Coulwell builds his websites. I also researched how to build a website and why it is important to have a website. When we research to meet web designers and, mainly to know the best, we find the name of several companies that offer this service. There are several companies that stand out: Inovve Agência Web Design - Web Design Coimbra Criação Websites Profissionais - Sites Criativos PMEs (inovve.com) - is a company that presents very different and versatile jobs. The projects are worked on by a team. They are responsible for the design, content creation, implementation of the entire online component, and the maintenance of the website. BlackDeers - Our Website Design & Development Portfolio - BlackDeers - this company works with many projects from other countries. It offers services: web design, website development, digital marketing, support, and hosting. On t...

Website: self-evaluation, planning stage

To build my website I researched some examples and how to build a website. I had already made a website that pretended to be my digital post, thus having some experience. But since I didn't want to imitate what I had, I tried to build one from scratch. After having a set of initial ideas that would help me make choices about details and organize the layout of the site, I opened a Wix account with my University email. When it was proposed to create a website in order to promote my work, a professional portfolio, I thought I had already done one and it seemed counter-prudent to be doing another. But then I understood that I am in another phase of my life and it was important to do one from scratch to promote a more concerted, more developed work and already in the area that I intend to follow, 2D animation. I wanted to create a professional website because I want to publicize my works/creations in the area of animation. In this case, I want to show my project in the discipline of...

Profile photo

Image
To choose a professional profile photo we must consider some aspects before taking it. No photo should be chosen or even our favorite, we have to think the photo is my brand image and the image still influences many people. So we must pay attention to the following: a) in the photos we must look natural, we must not have forced photos or in which we look very intense; b) the chosen photo must have a close face and see who we are; c) it must be current, we must or update the profile photo; d) we must take several photos, just for this purpose of wanting a professional profile photo, and choose the one in which our expression is the most natural and serene; e) the clothes we choose must be clothes that we could use in the workplace. In some situations, a compromise between formal and informal; f) we cannot use selfies or filters; g) avoid cuts; h) have a neutral background. When I made my digital portfolio I was not happy with my photos, because I wanted a professional photo for my profi...

My main research

Image
For my project - producing a tease - I made a plan to be able to decide how I should direct my research. I considered it important to have 4 fundamental axes for my research, namely: 1. Research on animators. It is important to understand what animators do, what their work is, and how they do it. Of the animators I researched, I chose Rebecca Sugar, because for me it is an example to follow. Through the research I did on the artist, I was able to understand what work we have to do in the entire animation process, since she makes all the material available to be able to do the animation, from the synopsis, storyboard, among others. 2. Research on storyboards. I found very detailed information, as I mentioned, on the "Steven universe wiki" site. On this site, we can understand all the moments of the storyboard for the episode construction process. However, I thought I should see other examples of a storyboard. For me, this is a crucial element of animation. I looked for sites...

Choosing software for animation - Opentoonz

Image
To choose the software to produce my animation teaser, I researched some sites to understand the evaluation that was made on different software. I had already tried programs like Biteable or Powtoon, but these programs do not have many features in the free version, being very limited. My search was for something more professional. On the Gamedesigning website, the software was evaluated according to three criteria: ease of use, price, and quality. 1. Synfig - is free software and It allows for both front end and back end design, very simple to use for beginners. 2. TupiTube is easy to access and versatile because it can be used on different platforms. It is a program that was made for children's animation. 3. Pencil2D - is also free, has a simple design, and is easy to use. In this software, it is possible to draw. 4. Opentoonz allows you to use a set of interesting internal effects for animations. It is more difficult in some aspects, but it allows for more professional animatio...

Teasers or Trailers?

A teaser is a technique used in marketing to attract attention in a university campaign. Teasers were born from the word "tease" and, therefore, aims to attract the public to a final product. There are no rules for making a teaser, we can have the freedom to produce it as we want, but we must define the objective we want when we want to make a teaser. The idea of the teaser is to excite the audience, without saying everything. In other words, we only show one part to create expectations and curiosity. The intention is to captivate the public's interest, just as we do with trailers. The trailer is a summary of a film, showing part of its content. It shows scenes from the film, tells the plot and the objective is the same as that of the teaser, captivating the audience's interest. The question is: will my project be better to make a teaser or a trailer? The answer, right now, is a teaser. But why? A teaser is to announce a product, such as an animation, which will be ...

Animation - behind the scenes

For my project, building a teaser or trailer about animation is important to research how animations are made. Despite having notions of how an animation is made and some experience, the viewing of these videos shows the dynamics of how an animation is made. That is, it shows us the "behind the scenes" of the animation. One advantage we currently have is the existence of computers and being able to use software that makes animation work faster, but in my opinion, it is no less complex. Before the digital age, drawings, scenarios, characters, all animation was done on paper and assembled manually. Nowadays, there is the process of creating the storyboard that can be manual or can be done on the computer. But art directors usually create characters by drawing them in pencil. When finished, draw the felt pen and erase the pencil marks. They also create backgrounds with objects and scenarios that they will need for animation. They make a set of drawings made with the indication o...

Animation trailers

Image
As my final project will be to make a trailer or teaser, I considered it important to watch interesting trailers to realize that information in a given animation gives more importance. On the website Bloop (s.d.) we can see some important things to build a trailer and it refers to six steps: 1. choose our shoots well. We have to think about which moments we will choose to draw attention to our animation. If we choose without great care we run the risk of the trailer is a bad representation of our animation. This is an essential step that for the creator of the animation is difficult because there are many moments in the plot in the animation that he will consider as good, but he will have to make a choice between them and think about the sequence he will give to these shots: whether it is sequential or no, it follows the presentation of the characters or not, it presents final scenes at the beginning, among other possible solutions that can arise in a trailer. 2. It is the phase of cho...

Research Class Exercise

One of the researches I did was about the animator Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe. To do my research I started by browsing the Cartoon network page to see if there was information about the creators of the animations. Since I didn't find this information, I searched for animation. Then I found a website with the biography of the animator and creator of Steven Universe: Rebecca Sugar | Steven Universe Wiki | Fandom . On this site, I also found information about the animation construction process, from the storyboard to the episodes. Even though I found this site, I researched others to try to find out more about Rebecca Sugar and her creations. One of the facts that I discovered and that were important for my work, was the process of building a storyboard. I've done storyboards, but not as thorough. On the website listed, I can see how it is done. When we opened the storyboard that was built to make an episode of animation, we were able to understand the whole process...
